The process for obtaining a marriage license is pretty simple...however, we know that this is not an every day occurrence for anyone. So, let's go through the steps and better prepare you for that portion of your planning:
1.Gather proper documentation and payment to apply for your marriage license:
* Both you and your fiancé will need one of the following forms of ID: driver's license, passport, birth certificate, or military ID. These must be original documents.
*If you were previously married, you must provide either the divorce decree or copy of your deceased spouse's death certificate.
*A fee of $50 is needed to obtain your license. This may be reduced to $5 if you have received premarital counseling in accordance with the guidelines listed on this website:

2. Find your nearest Country Court Clerk's office. You can do this by googling your county + court clerks office (example: Oklahoma County Court Clerk's Office). This will give you the website, address, and phone number.
3. When you arrive at the County Court Clerk’s office, both parties will need to be present. Upon arrival, fill out the marriage license application, present proper documentation and identification to apply for your marriage license, and pay your fee. Do not sign the application until you file the application at the County Court Clerk to help ensure that it is legally binding.
4. There is no blood test required! There is also no waiting period unless you are 16 or 17 years of age (In this case, consent or parent or legal guardian is required and there is a 72 hr waiting period). If you are under 16, marriage is prohibited in Oklahoma (unless by court order).
5. Your marriage license is good for 10 days!
6. Finally, it is typical for a couple to obtain a marriage license, hold the wedding ceremony, and then have the officiant file the certificate in the appropriate county office within days. The married couple will then receive a certified copy of the marriage certificate.
