The Essential Guide to Wedding Invitation Etiquette and Information

Wording, Content, Ideas
Sample Wedding Invitation

When wording wedding invitations, clarity and etiquette are key. Here are some important considerations to ensure your guests are well-informed:

1. Host Line: Start with who is hosting the wedding. Traditionally, it's the parents of the bride, but modern invitations can include both sets of parents, the couple themselves, or other hosts.

   - Example: "Mr. and Barton request the honor of your presence..."

2. Request Line: This line indicates the request for the guests' presence.

   - Formal: "request the honor of your presence" (typically for ceremonies in a house of worship)

   - Informal: "invite you to celebrate" or "invite you to join"

3. Couple's Names: Include the full names of the couple getting married.

   - Example: "...at the marriage of their daughter, Britney Anne, to Caleb Cole Barton..."

4. Date and Time: Clearly state the date and time of the ceremony.

   - Example: "Tuesday, the twenty-third of September, two thousand twenty-four, at three o'clock in the afternoon"

5. Venue Information: Provide the name and address of the ceremony and reception locations.

   - Example: "Cashion First Baptist Church, 18750 SH-74F

Cashion, OKlahoma 73016

6. Reception Details: If the reception is at a different location, include those details.

   - Example: "Reception to follow at Rustic Rose Barn, 8560 S MacArthur Blvd, Guthrie, Oklahoma 73044.

7. Dress Code:  Mention the dress code if applicable.

   - Example: "Black tie", "Casual attire", or specific dress code information.

8. RSVP Information: Clearly state how and when to RSVP.

   - Example: "Please RSVP by July 30th to rsvp@wedding.com or 123-456-7890"

9. Additional Information: If you have a wedding website or need to convey additional details (like no children, or accommodation info), include that separately or on an insert.

   - Example: "For more details, please visit www.CalebAndBritneyWedding.com"
